What a weekend it was for the Melbourne Mavericks! Coming away with their second win for the season, the team were in high spirits this week!
Looking to make it three for the season, the Mavs will take on the Giants this Sunday at their home ground, John Cain Arena.
The Mavs are yet to win at John Cain Arena so it would be a historical day if they get the W.
LAST TIME WE MET:
The last time these two teams met was the Team Girls’ Cup, seeing the Mavs narrowly go down to their opponents by just four goals. With next to nothing in it, this game is set to be a nail-biter. Currently sitting sixth on an extremely tight ladder, the Mavericks will be looking to keep the Giants to their single win for the season and climb up into a higher position.

Amy Parmenter V Chelsea Pitman
As an ex-Giant, our Mavs skipper will not only be up against her old side, but also the extremely talented Chelsea Pitman. Pitman has been a staple Wing Attack in her time at the Giants, and Parmenter will have to use her quick thinking, ability to read the play and insider knowledge on her opposition to come away with the win this weekend.
Molly Jovic V Jamie Lee Price
This is a battle that you do not want to miss! With both athletes willing to put their bodies on the line as experienced in previous weeks, there is sure to be no love loss for this midcourt pairing. They will run the clock right down to the last second with their incredible match-day fitness and willingness to leave it all on the line for their side.
A MESSAGE FROM THE COACH:
Tracey Neville spoke after the game on the team’s performance, reflecting on previous weeks and just how far the Mavericks have been able to come in such a short time.
"Every week we are trying to build relationships,” said Neville.
In order for the team to be challenging the likes of finals, Neville too noted that the Mavs want to be in “the best position challenging [finals]”, meaning that they need to “put the threat on the scoreboard” which “puts the threat on the opposition.”
