Coming full circle, the Melbourne Mavericks will begin to start tackling teams for a second time, starting with the NSW Swifts this weekend.
Having narrowly lost to their opposition the first time these two teams met, the Mavericks will be looking for redemption. Not only do the newbies have a home-court advantage, but they will have the ever-growing force of their Trailblazers behind them, in their second of three consecutive home games.
KEY MATCHUPS:
Amy Parmenter Vs Paige Hadley
Playing some serious court time in the Wing Attack position, Amy Parmenter will be up against the incredible Paige Hadley this weekend. The Mavs captain was first to every loose ball and contesting every pass last weekend, so Hadley will have her work cut out for her both on the circle edge and at the centre pass.
Shimona Jok Vs Sarah Klau
Shooting 40+ goals in the previous two weeks, Shimona Jok has been the Maverick’s rock on court. Klau will have to pull out all the stops and look up to her one intercept and three deflections last time these teams met. This is a feisty matchup you won’t want to miss this weekend!
Kim Jenner V Sophie Fawns
Kim Jenner had an outstanding game last time these teams met, securing two intercepts, two deflections and three gains. Fawns has been executing her circle work exceptionally the last few weeks, and so Jenner will have to use her netball smarts to beat this Goal Attack at her own game.
STATS FROM THE LAST TIME WE MET:
• The final score saw the Mavericks go down to the Swifts, 67-56
• The Mavs shot 36/41 at 88%, the Swifts 49/52 at 94% in normal time
• Come the power five the Mavs shot at 10/14 at 71% and the Swifts 9/14 at 64%
• The Mavericks doubled the Swifts’ intercepts six to three
• The Swifts had 54% of time in possession.
Having both lost last round, these teams will be looking to set themselves back up for a win to keep their season alive.
