The Melbourne Mavericks can confirm that foundation player, Molly Jovic, will depart the club ahead of the 2027 Super Netball season, with the co-vice-captain set to pursue an exciting opportunity elsewhere.
While a difficult decision, the move comes after careful consideration by Jovic and her partner, Cameron, who recently welcomed their first child - a son, Billy. Jovic's next move presents itself as an exciting opportunity for the entire family.
Maverick #6, Jovic was a foundation Maverick in 2024, Jovic has been a key figure in the club's journey, helping establish the standards, culture and identity of the competition's newest club. She was elevated to co-vice-captain in 2025 and retained the role in 2026, maintaining an off-court leadership role throughout her pregnancy.
Meanwhile, her outstanding 2025 campaign saw her crowned the Mavs second-ever Club Champion, after arguably a career-best season where played 13 games, amassed 968.5 Net Points, 11 deflections and seven intercepts, showcasing her all-round dominance and reliability in the midcourt.
Reflecting on her decision, Jovic said leaving the Mavs was one of the toughest choices she had faced. But the 30-year-old was adamant on one thing - she was definitely not retiring.
"This has honestly been one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make," Jovic said.
"If you'd asked me a couple of years ago, I never would have imagined there'd be a time when I wouldn't be coming back to play for the Mavs.
"But the past year or so has shown me that when you least expect it, life can throw you some pretty unexpected - but not unwelcome - surprises.
"Watching from the sidelines last year was incredibly tough," Jovic continued. "It was a mix of emotions, because I was so proud of what the girls achieved, but at the same time I was absolutely busting to get back out there with them."
"Being part of this club from day one and helping build something from the ground up is something I'll always be incredibly proud of. The Mavs have meant so much to me - a piece of me will always be a Maverick, and I'm so lucky to have made friendships that I know will last a lifetime.
"While it's incredibly sad to be saying goodbye, I'm also really excited about what's next...so stay tuned!"
Melbourne Mavericks Head Coach, Gerard Murphy, paid tribute to Jovic's contribution to the club and the influence she had on teammates throughout her time at the club.
"Molly's impact on this club has been enormous," Murphy said.
"She's a foundation player, an outstanding leader and someone who has helped shape the culture and standards of our program.
"Molly has one of the highest work ethics you will see, going about her business without complaint, always pushing and representing the Maverick spirit to the core.
"It is a bittersweet feeling - I coached Molly as a junior and I was looking forward to a full circle moment coaching her at Super Netball level.
"We would have loved to see Molly stay but we know this is the best thing for Molly and her family. We appreciate the effort and passion that Molly has brought to the Mavs and we wish her, Cameron and Billy nothing but the very best for their next chapter."
Whilst sad to see her depart, the entire Mavs family wishes to thank Molly for her outstanding contributions to the club both on and off the court, and wishes her, Cameron and Billy all the best for an exciting new venture for their family.
