The Melbourne Mavericks would like to acknowledge and thank outgoing inaugural player, Maisie Nankivell. Nankivell has informed the club that she will be taking a step away from netball to pursue an opportunity elsewhere, and as such, will not be returning to the Mavs in 2026.
Mav #9, the powerful midcourter was an asset to the club in its inaugural two seasons, both on and off the court. As well as taking to the court on 25 occasions in the light blue dress, Nankivell always gave her absolute all in training – be it on the court, the running track, or in the gym – was significantly involved in organising the club’s social activities, and always open to extending her skills outside of netball, as shown by her commitment to The Mavs Way podcast.
Mavs General Manager, Shae Bolton-Brown, paid tribute to Nankivell’s contribution to the club in its crucial formative years.
“Maisie is an example of another exceptional human who took a risk to jump on board and be Maverick with us throughout our first two years as a club. Moving from her home state and off the back of a Premiership win with the Thunderbirds was obviously a step out of her comfort zone, and we are so proud of her for that.
“We will miss her smiling face around the club next season and the positive vibes she brought to every session and every meeting, but we can’t wait to see what’s next for her and wish her nothing but the best.”
