The Melbourne Mavericks are delighted to announce emerging defender, Charlotte Sexton, will return to the club as a Training Partner for the 2027 Super Netball season, continuing her rapidly rising netball journey through the Mavs program.
One of Victoria's most exciting young defensive prospects, Sexton enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2026 after beginning the season as a Training Partner with the Mavs, before being elevated to the club's 11th Player and then a Temporary Replacement Player for Tara Hinchliffe following her season-ending ACL injury. The Bendigo product went on to make her Suncorp Super Netball debut with the Mavs and establishing herself as an important member of the Mavs' squad in what was a record-breaking season for the club.
Standing at 191cm, Sexton brings impressive height, athleticism and versatility to the defensive end. Her rise has been built on a series of standout performances across multiple levels of the game, including winning gold with the Australian Under 21 team at the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup, claiming back-to-back Bendigo Strikers Best and Fairest awards and earning selection in the Victorian Netball League Championship Team of the Year. Her breakout 2026 season with the Mavs also culminated in her selection to the Australian Diamonds squad as an invitee.
Sexton said she was excited to continue her netball career within the Mavs environment.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to remain part of the Mavs program," Sexton said.
"Last season was a huge learning experience for me. To go from Training Partner to 11th Player to making my Super Netball debut was something I never take for granted.
"The coaching staff and playing group have invested so much in my development and I feel like I've grown enormously as both a player and a person.
"I'm excited to continue learning, keep building my game and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way."
Mavs Head Coach, Gerard Murphy, said Sexton's progression over the past 18 months had been extremely pleasing.
"Charlotte has earned every opportunity she's received through hard work and a genuine commitment to improving her game," Murphy said.
"She's got some fantastic attributes on and off the court. She isn’t just tall, she is explosive and has terrific timing, which enables her to really impact aerial contests and rebounding. What has impressed us most is her willingness to learn, and her growth and confidence within the environment.
"We saw significant growth from Charlotte throughout 2026 and we're excited to continue supporting her development. She's a talented young athlete with a very bright future and we're delighted she'll remain part of the club."
Sexton will compliment the Mavs contracted squad of 10 for the 2027 Super Netball season: Reilley Batcheldor, Kim Brown, Jessie Grenvold, Tara Hinchliffe, Sacha McDonald, Shimona Nelson, Tyler Orr, Amy Parmenter, Jamie-Lee Price and Zara Walters.
The Melbourne Mavericks note that under Super Netball regulations, Temporary Replacement Player contracts for the 2027 season cannot be offered or formally ratified until 1 October, 2026.
The club will name their 11th Player at a later date.
