After a tough defeat agains the Swifts in Sydney, the Mavs are ready and firing for round three.
Tackling an undefeated West Coast Fever, the team is ready to power an upset in their second home game for the season.
LAST TIME WE MET:
The Team Girls’ Cup was the first time the Mavs took on the Fever, and in a nail biting game, forced a tie at 50 goals a piece.
The Mavs started the game strong, winning the first quarter 16-9, with a shooting percentage of 88% from one point shots, and 100% in two point shots. No doubt, the team will be looking to do the same on Saturday against the Fever who have not lost a quarter this season.
KEY MATCHUPS:
Molly Jovic V Kelsey Browne
Both having moved on from the Collingwood Magpies, Browne and Jovic are ones to watch this weekend. Quick on their feet, these players are creative in their movements and unstoppable when it comes to connecting with their teammates in the goal circle. Blocking these two at the centre pass is next to impossible, and it will be a tight battle to see who comes out on top.
Olivia Lewis V Jhanele Fowler-Nembhard
Having already racked up 283 Nissan net points for the season, Jhanele Fowler-Nembhard is an absolute force to be reckoned with. However, former teammate, Liv Lewis is prepped and ready to put her best foot forward against this GS, training exceptionally and ready to fly in for an intercept and any time, not giving Fowler-Nembhard any breathing room. There will be no love lost in this matchup.
Maisie Nankivell V Jess Anstiss
After an incredible game against the Swifts, Nankivell collected 32 feeds, 10 centre pass receives and 17 goal assists. Coming up against a well versed team captain in Jess Anstiss, having already raked up two intercepts and three deflections herself, it is sure to be a thrilling head-to-head battle for these miraculous midcourters.
A MESSAGE FROM THE COACH:
Despite a tough defeat last weekend, head coach Tracey Neville had a lot of positives to address in the post match interview, and sees every mistake as a learning opportunity. With an emphasis on learning to “treasure each other”, Neville highlighted the importance of working as a single entity and building up the relationships between the players, which will be a key focus coming into their game against the Fever.
