To coincide with the beginning of the 2026 Super Netball Reserves season this past weekend, Powerbay has been confirmed as the Major Partner of the Melbourne Mavericks Reserves.
The partnership with Powerbay - an Australian energy and power solutions company supporting high performance teams and organisations - was launched in conjunction with the Mavs Reserves’ opening‑round victory, with the team defeating the Firebirds Futures, 59–56, at Nissan Arena in Brisbane yesterday. Led by head coach, Tracey Brereton, and captain, Charli Hoey, the win set a strong foundation for the season ahead and highlighted the growing depth of talent within the Melbourne Mavericks pathway.
The Super Netball Reserves competition, which returns for the 2026 season, plays a critical role in developing elite netball talent, bridging the gap between state league and Suncorp Super Netball (SSN). For the Melbourne Mavericks, the Reserves program is a cornerstone of the club’s high‑performance pathway, designed to support emerging athletes and prepare the next generation of Mavs for the SSN stage.
After debuting during the 2025 season, the Mavs Reserves made an immediate impact, progressing all the way to the Super Netball Reserves Grand Final in their inaugural season. The program’s success was further underlined when inaugural captain, Sacha McDonald, earned a full Melbourne Mavericks contract off the back of her Reserves performances, before going on to make her highly anticipated SSN debut in season 2026.
The Mavs Reserves also provides significant opportunity to athletes in the Victorian netball pathway, with the 2026 squad currently consisting of 10 Victorian pathway athletes, six Victorian pathway training partners, and two replacement players also being Victorian athletes – 18 Victorian netball pathway athletes in total.
Mavs’ General Manager, Shae Bolton-Brown, said the partnership with Powerbay represents a shared commitment to high performance, development and long‑term growth.
“The Mavs Reserves program is fundamental to building sustainable success for the Melbourne Mavericks,” Bolton-Brown said.
“It provides emerging athletes with exposure to elite environments, coaching and match play, and gives us a clear pathway between talent identification and SSN. Powerbay’s support of our Reserves program is an investment in the future of the club, and we’re pleased to welcome them as Major Partner at the start of what promises to be an exciting season.”
Stephen Clarke, General Manager at Powerbay, said the company was proud to align with a program that prioritises development and opportunity.
“We’re proud to partner with the Melbourne Mavericks Reserves and support a program that plays such an important role in developing the next generation of elite netballers,” Clarke said.
“The Super Netball Reserves competition is vital to the future of the game, and Powerbay is excited to be part of the Mavericks’ journey as these athletes continue to grow and progress.”
The Mavs Reserves’ Round 2 clash will be held at John Cain Arena next Saturday, May 2, against the QBE Swifts Academy at 7.15pm. The Reserves’ match will follow the SSN clash between the Mavs and the Swifts at the same venue.
