The Melbourne Mavericks regret to announce that defender Lauren Moore sustained a severe knee injury that will rule her out for the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season.
Moore suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee following an awkward landing after attempting an intercept late in the third quarter of the Mavericks' final match against the GIANTS in the Team Girls Cup Pre-Season Tournament.
The 26-year-old will undergo reconstructive surgery in the coming weeks to repair the ACL injury, followed by an extensive rehabilitation program.
Melbourne Mavericks Head Coach Tracey Neville said: "Lauren has been a key defender and personality in the Mavericks build, and for her to suffer a season-ending injury is devastating for her individually and the group,"
"At this stage, our priority is to support her through what will be a difficult first few weeks and focus on the start of the season."
Despite the setback, Moore remains determined to make a full recovery and return to the elite level.
Lauren Moore said: "While I'm devastated to miss out on what was shaping up to be a massive season, my focus is now on attacking this rehab head-on and coming back fitter and stronger next season."
The Mavericks will provide further updates on Moore's progress throughout her recovery.
