The Melbourne Mavericks are thrilled to announce that star Captain Amy Parmenter has been named in the Australian Diamonds squad for the upcoming international season.
This prestigious selection marks yet another milestone in Parmenter’s exceptional career.
Parmenter will join the elite squad of 18 players as they embark on the journey towards the Sydney 2027 Netball World Cup. Her selection came after a rigorous evaluation process led by Diamonds coach Stacey Marinkovich, along with national selectors Anne Sargeant OAM and Michelle Wilkins.
Parmenter burst onto the scene in 2019, making her debut in Suncorp Super Netball (SSN). Her impact was immediate, earning her the SSN Rising Star award in the same year.
By 2022, Amy had reached the significant milestone of playing her 50th game in the SSN, a testament to her consistency and dedication. That year also saw her debut for the Australian Diamonds, achieving the highest honour in Australian netball.
Known for her tenacity in defence, Amy has previously led the league in intercepts, with her outstanding performances recognised with inclusion in the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year in 2020.
This season, Amy has taken on the role of inaugural captain of the Melbourne Mavericks. Her leadership has been instrumental in the new club's immediate ability to compete at a high level.
Her guidance on and off the court has played a key role in establishing the Mavericks as formidable contenders in their debut season.
Beyond her on-court achievements, Amy Parmenter is also the founder of the charitable Tie Dye Project. This initiative has seen her partner with the Australian Diamonds to raise significant funds for the Children's Cancer Unit at the Sydney Children's Hospital.
Through collaborations like this, the Tie Dye Project has made a meaningful impact on the lives of many young patients and their families, enabling Amy to use her talent on the court to make a difference off the court.
"It is always a privilege to be selected in the Australian Diamonds squad. The environment and the program is second to none and to get an opportunity to play with and against the best in the world is something I’ll never take lightly," Parmenter said.
Parmenter's dedication and strong skillset has been on show this season for the Mavericks and it's certainly something Tracey Neville has been impressed by.
“We are extremely proud of Amy and her well-deserved selection in the Australian Diamonds squad. Her dedication, skill, and leadership both on and off the court have been instrumental to our team’s success," Neville said.
“As the inaugural captain of the Melbourne Mavericks, Amy has set a high standard and played a key role in our ability to compete straight away as a new club in the competition this season. We are confident that she will continue to excel and make significant contributions to the Diamonds.”
