Melbourne Mavericks captain, Amy Parmenter, has been recognised in front of her peers and the wider netball community, when she was presented with the inaugural Australian Netball Players’ Association (ANPA) Heart of the Game Award at the Australian Netball Awards held on Saturday 30 November.
Presented for the first time in 2024, this accolade recognises a Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) player who exemplifies exceptional commitment to netball, personal growth, community impact, and serves as a positive influence within the sport.
Parmenter's leadership both on and off the court has been instrumental in the Mavericks' positive inaugural season, but her work away from netball with The Tie Dye Project has arguably been just as inspirational. Recently Parmenter and her 18-year-old business partner, Molly Croft, were named as one of four finalists for NSW Young Australian of the Year.
Founded by 27-year-old Parmenter and co-run with two-time osteosarcoma survivor Croft, The Tie Dye Project dyes and sells thousands of products every year to raise money for sarcoma-related initiatives.
Reflecting on the award, Parmenter expressed her gratitude at the recognition.
"Receiving the ANPA Heart of the Game Award is a tremendous honour. Netball has always been more than just a game to me; it's about community, growth, and inspiring others, whatever level you play at. Playing at SSN-level has given me an even bigger platform and opportunity to do this, so not only am I proud to represent the Melbourne Mavericks, but I’m also proud to represent The Tie Dye Project in receiving this award."
Shae Bolton-Brown, General Manager of the Melbourne Mavericks, praised Parmenter's achievement as well-deserved recognition for her contribution to not only the club, but the sport of netball as a whole.
"Amy's dedication to excellence and her unwavering commitment to the community embody the very essence of this award. Her leadership on and off the court continues to inspire both her teammates and fans alike, and we are incredibly proud to be able to call her a Maverick.”
