In their first ever away game, the Melbourne Mavericks will venture into enemy territory as they tackle the New South Wales Swifts in Sydney this Sunday April 21 (4pm AEST).
After a devastating loss to their cross town rivals, the Melbourne Vixens last weekend, the Mavericks are hungry for their first victory as a team.
The Swifts too are searching for their first win, falling short to the Sunshine Coast Lightning last weekend, 63-79.
Coming up against the seven time premiers, with Glasgow still out with injury, Fraser is ready to don her newfound colours, saving the niceties for after the battle.
KEY MATCHUPS:
Tayla Fraser Vs Maddy Proud
Having made the jump from the Swifts to the Mavs, Fraser will be forced head-to-head with her former teammates. Tackling the likes of Paige Hadley, Maddy Proud and Allie Smith, the Mavs midcourter will have to use her creative flare and unstoppable pressure, just as she did in the Team Girls Cup, to put a stop to the Swifts ability to run away with the game.
Helen Housby Vs Eleanor Cardwell
Keep an eye on the Helen Housby Vs Eleanor Cardwell match up, as the two English Vitality Roses compete for glory. Both Kim Jenner and Sarah Klau will have to put up quite a fight to stop these incredible forces. Both Housby and Cardwell shot exceptionally well in their opening matches as well as in the Team Girls Cup, proving themselves and their super shots to be punishing come the power five.
A MESSAGE FROM THE COACH:
Head Coach Tracey Neville, and Assistant Coach Nicole Richardson, have prepared their side exceptionally well for the game this weekend.
Tracey Neville spoke after last week’s game stating that: “Our girls stepped up” in their first official round as a team, and that despite being down by 10 goals at times, “the process in getting back [into the game] was superb.”
It is clear that both the Mavs and the Swifts have a lot on the line entering round two, and is for sure a game for the history books.
