The Melbourne Mavericks are thrilled to announce that Jessie Grenvold has been elevated from Training Partner to the team's 11th Player ahead of the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season.
The announcement was made at the Mavs 2025 Season Launch on Thursday evening, following the Mavs final pre-season hit out, where they took on the Auckland-based Northern Mystics at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, running out 90-55 winners.
Grenvold, a talented defender, has had somewhat of a meteoric rise over the past two seasons. After a breakout year representing her home state of South Australia at the underage level in 2022, Grenvold signed with the Adelaide Thunderbirds as a Training Partner in 2023. She impressed then assistant coach, Tracey Neville, enough to be invited to make the move from her home state to be a part of the inaugural season of the Mavs in 2024.
After a standout 2024 season as a Mavs Training Partner – where she also tied for the Victorian Netball League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award in the Championship division - Grenvold has been elevated to the position of Mavs’ 11th Player in 2025.
The 11th Player allows teams to access additional depth and flexibility in their squad throughout the season. To qualify as a team's 11th Player an athlete must be contracted as a nominated athlete for the 2025 season, be eligible to represent Australia in accordance with World Netball regulations, must not have represented another nation in any international event in the last four years, and must be aged 26 or younger or have not played in more than five SSN and/or ANZ Premiership matches.
Mavs General Manager, Shae Bolton-Brown, expressed her pride in Grenvold's achievement.
"We are incredibly proud of Jessie and her journey from Training Partner to 11th Player. She epitomises what it means to be a Maverick both on and off the court. Her hard work, resilience and talent have truly shone through, and we are excited to see her continue to grow and contribute to the team this season."
Grenvold also shared her excitement.
"I am beyond excited and grateful for this opportunity. Being named the 11th Player is a dream come true, and I can't wait to give my all for the Mavs this season."
The Mavs are now looking ahead to their Round 1 SSN match against the Sunshine Coast Lightning. The Mavs will host the Lightning at John Cain Arena, with Delta Goodrem performing live before the first centre pass at 7pm AEDT.
Tickets for the match are now available via Ticketek.
