The Melbourne Mavericks are thrilled to announce that accomplished goaler, Lucy Austin, has joined the club as a Training Partner ahead of the 2027 Super Netball season, adding premiership experience and elite-level depth to the Mavs' attacking unit.
One of the competition's most highly credentialled young shooters, Austin arrives at the Mavs following stints with the Adelaide Thunderbirds and GIANTS Netball. A dual Super Netball premiership player with the Thunderbirds and the recipient of the League's Rookie of the Year award in her debut season in 2023, Austin has already built an impressive résumé despite being just 24 years of age.
Standing at 190cm, Austin is renowned for her accuracy, composure and versatility in the shooting circle, with the ability to play both goal shooter and goal attack. Since earning her first Super Netball contract in 2022 after progressing through the Adelaide Thunderbirds pathway as a Training Partner, she has gone on to establish herself as one of the game's most exciting young attacking talents.
Austin's achievements extend beyond her premiership success, having been selected as an invitee to the Australian Diamonds program in 2025-26, and going on to make her debut against South Africa as Diamond #196.
After a 2026 domestic season that was cruelled by injury, Austin said she was excited to join the Mavs and continue developing her game within a new environment.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the Mavs and become part of a club that has built so much momentum over just its first few seasons," Austin said.
"The club achieved some remarkable things last year and it's clear there is a really strong culture and belief within the playing group.
"I'm looking forward to learning from my teammates, challenging myself in a new environment and doing everything I can to contribute to the success of the club.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity and can't wait to get started."
Mavs Head Coach, Gerard Murphy, said Austin would be a fantastic addition to the program.

Austin will join Kate Eddy and Charlotte Sexton as a Training Partner ahead of the 2027 Super Netball season, alongside the Mavs' contracted squad of 10: Reilley Batcheldor, Kim Brown, Jessie Grenvold, Tara Hinchliffe, Sacha McDonald, Shimona Nelson, Tyler Orr, Amy Parmenter, Jamie-Lee Price and Zara Walters.
