It’s full steam ahead for season two of the Melbourne Mavericks, with the League announcing the fixture for the 2025 edition of Suncorp Super Netball (SSN).
Off the back of a whirlwind first season, the Mavs will be aiming to progress one step further in season 2025, as they eye off their first finals campaign, after only narrowly missing the cut in their inaugural season, finishing fifth on the ladder.
The Mavs will open their 2025 account when they take on their 2024 bunnies – Sunshine Coast Lightning – in front of a home crowd at John Cain Arena on Saturday 5 April.
It will then be a cause for celebration on Easter Sunday, when the Mavs return to John Cain Arena for a Round 3 match up against the GIANTS.
With Round 3 being a split round across both the Easter and ANZAC Day long weekends, fans will have to wait two weeks until the Mavs Round 4 home match, which is sure to be a blockbuster as they take on Melbourne rivals, the Vixens, on May 4.
In Round 6 the Mavs will again travel to Tasmania for a May 17 home game against the Queensland Firebirds at MyState Bank Arena.
Then it will be a quick trip back across Bass Strait, for the Mavs to host 2024 SSN Champions, the Adelaide Thunderbirds, at John Cain Arena on May 25. The Round 7 clash - which falls during National Reconciliation Week – will be a part of the League-wide First Nations Round.
Although not a Mavs home game, Melbourne-based Mavs fans have an extra chance to catch the team in action in Round 9, when they take on the Vixens in another edition of the Melbourne derby on the Sunday afternoon of the King’s Birthday long weekend.
The Mavs will return to John Cain Arena in Round 10 when they host West Coast Fever in a Saturday twilight fixture.
The Mavs will play their final home game of the season against the Swifts in Round 12, with one eye ahead to the SSN Finals Series, which will begin mid-July.
Melbourne Mavericks General Manager, Shae Bolton-Brown, said the team was buoyed as they looked ahead to next season.
“The release of the SSN fixture is an exciting milestone to tick off the list as we gear up for season two of the Mavs. We’ve had the majority of the squad back for pre-season over the past couple of weeks, and the energy is high.
“Last year was obviously a whirlwind for the club in so many ways, but we loved every minute of it - we can’t wait to do it again and improve on what we started in 2024.”
